Great toy to supplement other sets Feb 26, 2010
By Kay We bought this to go with the Kai-Lan 75-piece "super set" mostly to get the special pieces (the boat, the Rintoo figure and a couple others). I think it might be a little limited on its own because there aren't that many plain regular pieces but otherwise the worst criticism I can make is that the color variation between the two sets occasionally makes mix-and-matching a little hard for the OCD amongst us. The size works out well for us as my daughter at 2 1/2 is not yet ready for Legos but is quite dextrous and is well past the big basic Mega Bloks. She is just starting to get into imaginative play but since her mother (i.e. me) has no imagination whatsoever, basing our games on the themes and storylines of a cartoon she enjoys makes it much easier to wing it. We tried several other types of build-rebuild toys before including Clipos and Krinkles but this is the first one she seems to have got the hang of. One caveat: the flowers and the small round flat 4-peg pieces are potential choking hazards so if buying for a young toddler (or one just still in the habit of putting things in their mouth) I would take them out and put them away somewhere safe until the child is a bit older.

Pieces won't stay together Dec 27, 2009
By Jenna Glatzer How frustrating. This is really an adorable set, and my daughter got so excited to open it-- it was the gift I saved for last for her for Christmas because I knew she'd love it. But it's impossible to assemble the pieces like they look on the box. The house won't stay together, and you have to be so delicate while building that it's silly... even I, as an adult, couldn't get it to work. The roof should be all one piece, and there should be some additional pieces (especially the "tree trunks") to help with the sturdiness. These are also not the big Mega Blocks type of blocks I expected-- they're larger than Legos, but smaller than the other Mega Blocks we have.
I'm contemplating trying to return it. She really wants to make it work, but it's frustrating for both of us.

Maybe it was a little soon for her?!? Jan 03, 2011
By Kate My daughter still loves to put things in her mouth at 20 months of age but she also loves blocks and Ni Hao Kai Lan. Thought this would keep her from wanting to eat everything but no. A little early. Also these mega bloks don't work with the large set that I bought for her which was a bummer. Kind of why I bought this set - thought she would be able to expand the whole dragon boat scene. otherwise it came just as it was ordered.

"quirky mama"
Durable, fits with "Duplo". Love the price. In order to get non-traditional building pieces I will look into "Mega Bloks" brand from now on. Our set is great- no problems. The sky's the limit when combined with other sets, whether "Duplo" or "Mega Bloks". Totally great!
