No school like the old school Dec 27, 2011
By Norrington516 The recent J.J.Abrams Star Trek movie saw the release of a series of new 12" figures based on the rebooted characters of Kirk, Spock, McCoy as well as one of Leonard Nimoy as 'Old Spock' or 'original Spock' who travels through time to connect this new generation Star Trek with the old.
The figure is a very nice sculpt of Nimoy from the movie. The worn greyish-brown ambassadorial clothes are removable so the figure can be re-cast in any number of Nimoy's more recent movie incarnations or simply as an older man/alien/mutant in one's dioramas (he does have the Vulcan pointy ears so be aware of that). His right hand can be replaced with the famous "Live long and prosper" salute though the peg's size can make it difficult to remove and interchange. The plastic is thick and sturdy enough to withstand average play and yet isn't so thick that one cannot modify it with a good craft knife. Articulation is very basic - the elbows, shoulders, hips and knees are jointed and the shoes are mouled into the foot while the hands, as mentioned, are attached by a knob.
I primarily purchased this figure with a view to modifying it. The first figure I got became WW2 German General and anti-Hitler plotter Ludwig Beck - but I was so pleased by the figure that I decided to get a second one to make into a Jewish Rabbi (the 'live long and prosper' salute is actually based on the Jewish priestly blessing and is essentially that hand sign done by both right and left hands with the thumbs joining - something that Nimoy added to Star Trek from his Jewish heritage) by taking the Vulcan hand salute from the first figure and modifying it to be the left hand. Overall it's a very nice figure for Star Trek fans, for those doing a figure based on Nimoy's more recent movies such as Equilibrium, or for those who would like to include an older gentleman in their figure dioramas.
overview of spock character figure Jan 11, 2011
By Chris Its a really character from Mr Spock or the actor. I've neve seen a good character figure like this before, neither the character of Steve Austin is so real!!. For me Its a good piece of collection and not a toy!!.

By Vienne The figure's clothing is well-made. The figure itself seems sturdy, but possibly not child-sturdy. It comes with a second right hand for grasping objects; the one it wears on arrival is posed in the Vulcan salute.
I don't think I'd allow this to go out to play with the kids, despite the fact that its underwear and shoes are molded on. In ten years it will show up, completely handless, in thrift shops across the country: both hands are detachable.
The face is well-done, although the hair color is a little ... strange. This Spock seems to have become a redhead who has gone gray, rather than an aging black-haired humanoid.
Bottom line: a collector's display piece, and a well-made one, but not a child's toy.
